Emirates has announced a non-stop service from Auckland to Dubai, expected to begin early next month on the 266 seat Boeing 777-200LR.
The new service will be one of the longest in the world, just 20 minutes shy of Emirates’ newly announced Dubai to Panama City service. Fortunately for passengers, Skytrax typically ranks Emirates in the top 5 of its annual World's Top 100 Airlines, considered to be the Oscars of the aviation industry. Emirates topped the list in 2013.
The Auckland to Dubai flight, EK449, is scheduled to depart Auckland each night at 9:30pm, and will arrive in Dubai at 5:45 am the next morning, local time. Coming home, flight EK 448 from Dubai to Auckland will depart Dubai at 10:05am and arrive in Auckland at 11:00am local time. There will be three cabin classes available, including eight first class suites, 42 lie-flat business class seats and 216 economy seats.
The new service is sure to show benefits both to Kiwis travelling abroad and for the domestic economy. Brent Thomas, House of Travel commercial director, said the new flight route would open up a wide European network, particularly the UK, with only a short layover time in Dubai.
"Emirates' direct flight from Auckland arrives in Dubai just before 6am, offering fantastic connectively to Emirates' 38 European destinations," he said.
"Kiwis will be able to get to Europe with only a 3-4 hour layover in both directions."
